Big futures start in kindergarten
Kindergarten lays the foundation for a child’s educational journey, helping them build early literacy, math, and social-emotional skills in a structured and supportive environment. It’s a time when children learn how to follow routines, collaborate with others, and develop confidence as learners—all of which are key to long-term academic success.
Canyons School District offers both full-day and half-day kindergarten options to meet the unique needs of families. Whether easing into the school experience or taking advantage of a full-day program, parents can choose the schedule that best supports their child’s development.
Steps to Becoming a Canyons District Kindergartener
If your child will be 5 by Sept. 1, complete New Student Enrollment Request
To register in a Canyons District school, you must first enroll your child using our secure, Skyward Family Access portal. Students who are new to Canyons, have never attended one of our schools, and do not have a Skyward Family Access account, will need to create one by selecting Temporary Account for New Student Enrollment.
If you already have a Skyward Family Access account, or a temporary account has already been created, please click New Student Enrollment to be taken to the login screen. If you need to have your Family Access password reset, please use the Forgot Your Login/Password option on the login screen or call the school
Email your school’s principal by Feb. 28 to declare your interest in half-day kindergarten.
After you enroll, you will receive an invitation to kindergarten orientation.
You will receive instructions in August for registering for school online. Please note that registration is different than enrolling.
Enrollment is the process of being accepted into Canyons School District—this includes submitting required documentation and selecting a school or program.
Registration happens after enrollment and involves choosing specific classes, updating contact information, and confirming attendance for the school year.
Kindergarten Enrollment
To enroll your child in kindergarten, please gather the following documents:
birth certificate
An original or a certified copy of a birth certificate is required for any child.
5 Years Old
To enter kindergarten children must be five years old on or before September 1.
immunization
Be prepared to provide proof of immunization against communicable diseases.
Proof of Residency
Exceptions for required forms will be made for McKinney-Vento students who are displaced or experiencing homelessness.
legal name
Your child’s legal name (the name that appears on the birth certificate) will be used on all official school records.
Preschool

If you don’t have access to a computer at home, contact the school in which you intend to enroll for assistance.
