Common Questions and Answers
Enrollment is the process of being accepted into Canyons School District—this includes submitting required documentation and selecting a school or program.
Registration happens after enrollment and involves choosing specific classes, updating contact information, and confirming attendance for the school year.
There is no early placement for kindergarten. The UTAH STATE LAW says a child must be 5 on or before September 1st to be placed in kindergarten (See Utah Code 53G-4-402(6) and CSD Policy 600.7). There are no exceptions to this state mandated law.
When the student is 5 and enters kindergarten the parent may request an acceleration evaluation be done by the school to determine if the student is appropriate for advancement to the first (1st) grade. District guidelines for acceleration of students must be followed in these cases.
The student must have attended a kindergarten program within an accredited school. In a majority of cases, in the state of Utah if the child was accepted under the age of 5, the school is not accredited for kindergarten. Please complete and submit the online form at homeschool.canyonsdistrict.org.

If your student is 49% or less at school, you will need to provide a one time notification to the local school board of the school-age child’s district of residence. and a Dual Enrollment form. The Dual Enrollment form is completed at the school.
