Communications

What We Do

Canyons District’s Office of Communications supports and promotes the District by providing accurate and timely information to employees and the public.

The Office of Public Communications is the marketing and communications arm of the District. We assist schools and departments in publicizing their events and programs and in crafting clear, timely and professional internal and external communications.

The communications team is the primary source of news about Canyons District and its schools. We cover and publish web stories about District events, pitch news stories to local and national media, manage crisis communications during school emergencies, manage the District’s social media accounts, and handle media inquiries and public records requests under Utah’s Government Records Access Management Act (GRAMA).

Creative Requests

Our Creative Team manages the Canyons District brand and its family of 60 websites. We are a service-oriented department that fields thousands of requests each year for assistance with marketing campaigns, re-branding, and print and electronic graphic design needs. If you have a story to tell, we can help you tell it through any imaginable medium, from the creation of videos and purchase of ads to the design of websites, banners, brochures, flyers and postcards.

Digital

Canyons District’s Digital Team oversees the District’s social media channels and family of 60 websites, and handles all web updates. Our team offers full-service web development for schools and departments, trains school-based web managers, and assists in trouble-shooting technical issues.

Websites

Web & Social Media

The Office of Public Communications pays an annual stipend to the school employees who are appointed by their principals to update and manage their school websites and social media channels. In order to receive this stipend, digital content managers undergo prescribed training and agree to a list of terms and conditions. To assist schools and departments in updating their web pages, we’ve also stockpiled a library of tip sheets on topics ranging from setting up your Facebook page to knowing what time is most optimal for posting. These can be found on our Google drive.

Style Guide

To assist employees with communicating in a cohesive and professional way, we have created a CSD Writing Style Guide, an editorial guidebook describing our house rules for capitalization, punctuation and spelling. Trainings

In today’s digital world, communicating effectively is as much a science as an art, and our team can help you with both. We’ve developed training modules to help you navigate the ever-evolving world of social media, analyze web metrics, and know when and what type of content to publish in order to reach a given audience. Following are the types of trainings we offer. Questions? Email communications@canyonsdistrict.org.

Customer Service

The Canyons School District Board of Education and Administration believe stellar customer service is imperative to the success of our organization. We are, after all, a public entity: We exist to serve the communities of stakeholders that support us, financially and otherwise. Patrons should receive the very best in customer service when interacting with CSD personnel. To that end, we offer customer service training for all school Main Office and District Front Desk personnel.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
