110 CSD Students Advance to Regional Science Fair

What if California were to secede from the United States? Is a Brexit-style “Calexit” even legal? And how might the state’s departure, and the loss of its 55 electoral votes, influence future presidential elections? It’s this last question that piqued the curiosity of Brighton High sophomore Jenna Rupper – and that impressed the judges of […]

Escape the Winter Blues with CSD’s Theatre Line-Up

Do the winter blues have you down? Would you rather disappear into Victorian England, consider the value of individuality, laugh about society’s pitfalls, pretend you are at the Globe Theatre or spy on the Salem witch trials from the comfort of a high school auditorium? Never fear, Canyons’ students are hard at work on this […]

Indian Hills concert band to perform at state festival

If BJ Cox were to affix a moral to his music teaching skills, it would be that hard work pays off. For two years, the Indian Hills music leader and his students have tried out for the State Junior High Band Festival. Two years in a row, the band didn’t make it – but Cox […]

Join us in Celebrating Digital Citizenship Week, Feb. 6-10

Cyber-bullying, and online privacy and safety, may be what comes to mind as the digital dilemmas facing schools in today’s hyper-connected world. But at Canyons District, teaching good digital citizenship isn’t just about safely navigating the Internet. It’s about empowering students to use digital tools–including social media–to explore the world, gain knowledge, and connect with […]

Pro Athlete’s Career Advice: Have a Healthy Disrespect for the Impossible

John Madsen has a healthy disrespect for the impossible. It’s how he explains his unlikely path to the National Football League–a career he launched without ever having played a game of high school football–and it’s what he instills in the young athletes he mentors today through his John Madsen Performance training program. “Dream big. Anything […]

Canyons District Athletes Win in Sports, Academics

For those who doubt regular exercise keeps the brain sharp, consider Exhibit A: CSD’s Academic All-State honorees. The Utah High School Activities Association’s Academic All-State Award is given to students who excel in the classroom as well as on the court, or in the pool. Four CSD winter athletes were recognized for the 2016-2017 school […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
