35 Spring Athletes Cap their Prep Careers with Academic All-State Finish

To achieve Academic All-State status is no small feat. But this year’s awardees in spring sports deserve special applause. Senior prep athletes hoping to clinch a record or cap their careers with a final score, play, or push to the finish line were denied that chance this spring as Utah schools and communities united to defeat a different kind of opponent: COVID-19. Corner Canyon’s Van Fillinger Picked for All-American Bowl

It was a fitting end to a standout season for the Chargers. Days after helping his team achieve victory at Utah’s 6A Football Championships, Corner Canyon High’s strong-side defensive end Van Fillinger was awarded his All-American Bowl jersey before an auditorium of cheering peers. To be chosen for the All-American Bowl is a rare distinction reserved for the nation’s top players. 33 CSD Students Earn Academic All-State Honors in Spring Sports

Canyons District’s sporting students are logging big wins academically and athletically. In a year during which students have, thus far, claimed 12 state team and individual championship titles in Utah High School Activities Association-sanctioned activities, 80 students representing all five of CSD’s comprehensive high schools have also earned Academic All-State Honors. Welcome to the Jungle! Middle Schools Open Early for Sixth-Graders

Draper Park’s “welcome to the jungle” orientation day for sixth-graders was fitting considering middle school can feel a bit wild and unpredictable. If you didn’t already know she was Hillcrest High’s new head soccer coach, you might have mistaken Kyra Peery for one of her players at Thursday’s meet-and-greet with prospective team-members and parents.
