There’s no need to apply for the U.S. Department of Agriculture-authorized benefit, which was […]

Lessons in Giving: Charitable Acts Proliferate Amid the Pandemic

Many of the negative events of 2020 can be blamed on the global pandemic, but in Canyons School District, COVID-19 has also been the source of a little bit of good. Actually, for Canyons Education Foundation Development Officer Denise Haycock, donations of school supplies, clothing, backpacks and more have been the source of a lot […]

Talents of Alta Students Sparkle on Official CSD Yuletide Card

Wait a minute, Mr. Postman: Canyons School District, now out on Winter Recess, is sending holiday greetings around the world. Two different — but equally festive — holiday cards were created, printed and […]

New Emergency-Closure Guidelines could Spell the End of ‘Snow Days’

Add this to the flurry of ways the pandemic has changed education: a path to more easily weathering “snow days.” In line with efforts this year to keep students safe and learning, the Canyons Board of Education has chosen to take advantage of an option allowed by the Utah State Board of Education to treat […]

Jordan High To Go Virtual During Week Leading Up to Winter Recess

Jordan High students will be home in the days leading up to the holidays — but that doesn’t mean they won’t be engaged in learning. Starting Monday, Dec. 14, all Beetdiggers will turn to online learning for the last week of school before Winter Recess. The decision to move to virtual classes for a short […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
