CSD, Health Department Team Up To Provide ‘The Jab’ at High Schools

Plans to provide “the jab”  to age-eligible students who have parent permission to participate in a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at a Canyons District high school are moving along at a rapid clip. The clinics, held in partnership with the Salt Lake County Health Department, have been scheduled for various times this week. Parents and guardians […]

Bobcats — and Ninja Warriors — excited about new Union Middle School

There’s a lot to be excited about with the construction of a new Union Middle School. The pièce de résistance, however, might be found where the current building will stand for two more school years. A Ninja Warrior playground, loaded with obstacles and a small climbing wall, will be built on large playfields that will […]

Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

A greeting card from cardstore.com humorously sums up why the last full Wednesday of every April has been designated to celebrate a cherished and invaluable segment of office workers. On the front of the card, the phrases “Secretaries Day,” “Administrative Assistants Day” and “Administrative Professionals Day” are each crossed out in red ink. A fourth description listed above an old-fashioned typewriter […]

Writing our Next Chapter • CSD Launches Strategic Planning Process, Invites Public Input

The origin story of Canyons School District — a school system created in 2007 by a vote of the people — is as familiar, by now, as our track record in prioritizing college- and career-readiness, student achievement, innovation, community engagement, customer service and fiscal accountability. It’s time to start writing the next chapter. The Canyons […]

CSD Parents Urged to Respond to COVID-19 Student Vaccination Survey

Following in the footsteps of such music mega-stars as Mariah Carey and Britney Spears, some 7,000 teenage students in Canyons District may soon have the opportunity to get the COVID-19-fighting jab at school and during school hours. Thanks to a partnership with the Salt Lake County Health Department, COVID-19 student vaccination clinics are being planned […]

Oh the places CSD’s retirees will go, the things they will see!

Oh the things we’ll do, the places we’ll go, and the people we’ll see when the pandemic is safely behind us. After a year of Netflix binging and home improvements, we’ve just about exhausted our pandemic to-do lists. Who can blame us for looking ahead and pondering which of our forgotten pastimes and unrealized adventures […]

A Community Celebration: Union Middle School Groundbreaking

Among the most distinguishing features of Union Middle School are its expansive, grassy playfields, a community asset that will carry forward when the campus is rebuilt.  Not only will there be freshly-planted green space to the west of the new school when it’s completed in the fall of 2023, the campus will also sport a […]

High School Art Winners Announced, District Art Show on Display at South Town

During a life in which he crafted some of the most famous American art, Andy Warhol once said, “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” That advice is something participants of […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
