Thank a Teacher: CSD Now Taking Nominations for 2021 Teacher of the Year

To be a teacher during a pandemic is to be on the front lines of the battle to safeguard the health and heart of the future. In this unprecedented era of COVID-19 — marked by hours of Google Meets, constant updates to Canvas pages, strained voices to be heard from behind a mask, and the application […]

Canyons Works with University of Utah to Solve Teacher Shortage

Zeke Michel found his calling long before he could verbalize it as a career goal while working as a peer tutor mentoring fellow Hillcrest High students with intellectual disabilities. That nascent interest steered him to seek a job as an after-school custodian at Jordan Valley, Canyons District’s school for students with severe disabilities. In 2015, […]

Midvale Elementary’s Jessica Beus Named 2019 Teacher of the Year

Jessica Beus is known as the “child whisperer” of Midvale Elementary. With an exceedingly calm and patient demeanor, coupled with plenty of smiles and fist-bumps, Beus guides her students through the day’s lessons. In turn, her group of third-graders approach their days with eager eyes, grins, and an apparent desire to show their teacher they […]

Alta High’s ‘Mr. L’ Is Canyons District’s 2015 Teacher of the Year

Matt Leininger’s energetic approach to teaching physics shows his students exactly how much they matter. His apparent dedication and care for students are just a few of the reasons that the Alta High educator, who is affectionately called “Mr. L” by casts of Hawks, has been selected as the 2015 Canyons District Teacher of the […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
