Ken Rowley Appointed New Principal of Alta High

Ken Rowley is applying a farmer’s wisdom to the tasks in front of him as he assumes the role of principal at Alta High: “As my dad would tell me, it’s time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.”  Rowley, who has been an educator for 26 years, including 15 as principal at […]

Childhood yule memories inspired CCHS student-created artwork for CSD holiday card

Corner Canyon High senior Makayla Larkins’ art career began at home as a little girl. Years after drawing her family, pets, and stars on her favorite canvas at home — the walls, of course — Larkins’ passion for that creative form of visual expression has blossomed like a rose garden. “Art’s my life,” she said, […]

‘Season of Giving’ Well Under Way Around Canyons District

With the spirit of gratitude and giving that accompanies the holiday season, an abundance of food, clothing, and gifts are being gathered and given by students, families, and local organizations across Canyons School District. The heartfelt donations and deliveries recall a Brian Tracy recommendation: “Always give without remembering and always receive without forgetting.” Seventy percent […]

Looking to Transfer Schools? Join the Growing Number of Families Who Choose Canyons

Canyons continues to be the school district of choice for a growing number of families. For the second consecutive year, Canyons has seen a slight increase in the enrollment of transfer students who reside outside the District. About 23 percent of CSD’s 33,000 students attend the school of their choosing, or a school other than […]

Are you bilingual, trilingual, or even a polyglot? Thank you, Education Support Professionals!

Borrowing from an African proverb, Superintendent Rick Robins says it takes a team and a village to fulfill the District’s promise of helping 34,000 students experience a world-class education. With that in mind, it’s with gratitude that Canyons School District recognizes Wednesday, Nov. 17, as Education Support Professionals Day to honor our ESPs — each […]

‘Heroes’ Honored at Stirring Canyons District Veterans Day Programs

Moments after Quail Hollow Elementary’s heartfelt and patriotic Veterans Day program, a touched Utah National Guardsman approached 96-year-old Navy Captain Albert L. Fisher, shook his weathered hand, and offered a well-deserved compliment: “You are a hero.” Fisher happens to be one of the few remaining heroes to have served in the military during World War II. […]

What’s a Typical Day Look Like in the Life of a School Psychologist?

https://youtu.be/l15f7l3ypTg School psychologists, as most people probably assume, work directly with students, but they also consult and collaborate with teachers and parents. They evaluate students for special education services, but also for mental health supports and referrals. They help build positive school climates where all students feel safe and welcome. They are an ally to […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
