Fall Donation Drive Provided Enough Goods to Make CSD Community Center a Reality

https://youtu.be/SvR90z2FyYc Most educators will say they view their jobs as more of a calling than a career — and when it comes to supporting students, their charitable hearts extend well past the classroom. Thanks to the efforts of Sallianne Wakley, an Instructional Supports Department Specialist, Sue Collins from Sandy Elementary, and other do-gooders around the […]

11th Grade ACT Testing is Going Digital

As part of Canyons District’s commitment to college-readiness, the District’s high schools sponsor on-campus ACT testing for 11th-grade students each spring — and this year, all testing will be digital. The adoption of online testing is in line with plans announced in 2019 by makers of the ACT to move to computer-based testing in order […]

Panther Pride on Full Display at Eventful Peruvian Park Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Wednesday night was an eventful one for the Peruvian Park community, which arrived in droves to celebrate and check out the new elementary building that has been under construction for the past year and a half on the school’s old campus in Sandy. Kids, most wearing red, white and black Peruvian Park T-shirts, danced in […]

Thank You, CSD’s ESPs! Our Education Support Professionals are Second to None

If you’ve been around education, it’s likely you’ve heard the acronym ESP in conversations. In this context, ESP is not referring to a sixth sense. It’s not related to the sports network ESPN, either. In the education world, ESPs are all of the non-licensed employees who help students, teachers and administrators succeed at school. The […]

Patriotism Abounds as CSD Schools Celebrate Veterans Day

Earlier this fall, students around the state were invited to write an essay about a military veteran. When Azaylea Olson heard about the writing contest, the Silver Mesa Elementary fifth-grader’s thoughts focused on a veteran she knows and loves: retired United States Navy Aviation Radioman 1st Class Jim Weakland — or, as she calls him, […]

School Psychologists: Thanks for Helping our Students and Schools Shine Together!

Considering the challenges our students and schools overcame the past few years, the theme of this year’s National School Psychology Week is quite fitting. As the mantra suggests, “Together We Shine.” School psychologists, who were being honored from Nov. 7-11 for the annual week of recognition, have played an important behind-the-scenes role in helping students […]

Winter Weather 101: What Happens When Heavy Snow Hits Canyons District Schools?

Temperatures have dropped, and the mountains are blanketed in glistening layers of snow, which means winter has arrived! What are Canyons District’s procedures and guidelines regarding snow closures and delays? First and foremost, we live in Utah — a state well-prepared for big snow. It’s important to know that Canyons District will make every effort to keep […]

Governor’s Office Recognizes Diamond Ridge High’s Suzanne Hales

She is an unfailingly kind and fiercely loyal champion of students. But don’t expect her to put up with any nonsense. Whether Suzanne Hales is getting after students for coming late to school or consoling them with words of compassion, the Head Secretary at Diamond Ridge High makes it known how much she cares. “Suzanne […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
