Canyons District Receives Top Marks Among Salt Lake Metro School Districts

Helping students become college- and career-ready by graduation has certainly become a niche for Canyons School District over the past 13 years.

Niche, a platform for connecting students and families with colleges and schools, agrees.

Canyons School District ranks No. 1 for Best School Districts in Salt Lake County and is also perched at the top of school districts in the surrounding metropolitan area, according to Niche’s grading system. CSD earned an overall B+, receiving an A- in administration and college prep, a B+ for academics, clubs & activities, and teachers, and a B in diversity.

This ranking comes on the heels of Canyons being named the highest-ranked district in Utah for overall testing scores, according to Public School Review. That ranking is based on the percentage of schools within a District to have placed in the top 5 percent of all schools statewide for math and reading test scores. That review also revealed that Canyons has the highest concentration of top-ranked schools (20 percent) in the state.

Canyons students also rank No. 1 for math proficiency scores, per Public School Review.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
