State Education Chief Visits Union Middle

Students tend to sit a little straighter when visitors come to observe their class. When the visitor is the state’s public education chief, they walk a little taller afterward, too. Union Middle School students, educators and leaders, as well as Canyons District’s superintendency and academic leadership, last month hosted a tour of State Superintendent of […]

CSD Plans Middle School Orientations For 6th, 7th Grades

Perhaps you remember what it was like: The wide hallways, lockers that wouldn’t open, trying to wend your way from class to class. The first day of middle school is, for most people, an experience they wouldn’t want to repeat. Canyons wants to change that by hosting half-day orientations for CSD’s middle-school first-timers on Aug. 15 […]

At the same time NCAA athletes were hustling for a national hoops championship, aspiring Sweet 16ers from Canyons District middle schools were hitting the court in their own version of March Madness.  Union and Indian Hills both ran away with two first-place trophies in the District’s Middle School 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Boys and girls teams […]

New Lighting System Shines In Union’s ‘High School Musical Jr.’

What time is it? It’s almost time for Union Middle, which later this month will produce Disney’s “High School Musical Jr.,” to cast a spotlight on dancing and singing students with a new stage-lighting system that was funded by a $20,000 grant. Union’s theater club, also known as the Union Theater Group, in December received […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
