Canyons School District Names Mindy Robison as Assistant Superintendent

Canyons School District has named veteran educator Mindy Robison as its new Assistant Superintendent, elevating a homegrown leader who has spent more than a decade serving the schools that shaped her.

Robison, currently a School Performance Director over middle schools, was appointed to the Assistant Superintendent role by the Canyons Board of Education on Tuesday April 21. She was selected from field of four finalists to succeed Dr. McKay Robinson who will serve as Canyons Superintendent.

Functioning as Chief of Staff, Robison will oversee operations for CSD’s 47 schools and programs and steer initiatives prioritized as part of the District’s Strategic Plan, including the implementation of Canyons Portrait of a Scholar, a framework for the skills and character traits students need to succeed in the 21st Century.

“This community has shaped who I am — as a student, an educator, and leader,” said Robison who spent her formative years enrolled at Oakdale Elementary, Albion Middle, and Brighton High. “Canyons has given me so much over the years, and I feel a responsibility to give back by supporting our students, our staff, and our families in every way possible. I’m grateful for the trust the Board of Education has placed in me and excited to work alongside so many dedicated educators and staff.”

Robison has devoted 27 years to public education as a teacher, instructional specialist, and school and district administrator. She has built a reputation for collaborative leadership and a commitment to student success and high-quality teaching and learning.

In her role overseeing the District’s middle schools, Robison has supervised and coached principals, led professional learning for administrators, and worked across departments to build support for schools. As lead of the High-Quality Learning Committee, she has focused on strengthening Professional Learning Communities where teachers work together to review student data, align instruction, and respond to individual student needs.

“I believe strongly in two-way communication. Our schools are strongest when we’re listening to our teachers, families, and students, and using that feedback to guide how we move forward together,” she said.

Before joining the District Office, Robison served as Principal of Midvale Middle School where she led a comprehensive school improvement efforts focused on academics, student wellness, and school culture. She also served as Principal of Crescent Elementary, as a District math specialist, and many years in the classroom as a middle school math teacher.

Robison holds a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from the University of Utah and a bachelor’s degree in history and mathematics education from Brigham Young University. She earned her administrative certification from Utah State University.

Her leadership has been recognized at the state level. She was named Utah Secondary Administrator of the Year in 2022 by the Utah Association of Secondary School Principals and Utah Career and Technical Education Principal of the Year in 2021.

Known for her relationship-centered approach and ability to bring people together to solve complex challenges, Robison came to education after considering employment paths in computer science. “I quickly realized I was most fulfilled working with people and helping them grow,” she said. “It’s something that runs in my family. My Mom was a teacher and my sister is a teacher.”

Robison lives in Salt Lake with her husband of 25 years, George. The couple has three adult children and enjoy hiking, camping, and traveling with their family. An avid fan of musical theater, she has been a season ticket-holder at Eccles Theater since 2010.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
