For parents of children between the ages of 3-5, January is the time to consider schooling plans for the 2026-2027 school year.
The preschool and kindergarten years are full of discovery, growth, and, naturally, a few questions. To help parents with their decision-making and introduce them to CSD’s schools and programs, the District is hosting five Open House events for parents. These events are free and open to the public, and all participants will receive a free backpack, pencil case, and coloring book!
- Wednesday, Jan. 7, 6 p.m. — Alta View Elementary, 917 Larkspur Dr., Sandy
- Thursday, Jan. 8, 6 p.m. — Glacier Hills Elementary, 1085 E. Galena Dr., Sandy
- Friday, Jan. 9, 3 p.m. — Midvalley Elementary, 217 E. 7800 South Midvale
- Tuesday, Jan. 13, 4 p.m. — Sprucewood Elementary, 12025 S. 1000 East, Sandy
- Wednesday, Jan 14, 6 p.m. — Oakdale Elementary, 1900 Creek Rd., Cottonwood Heights
- Wednesday, Jan 21, 6 p.m. — Crescent Elementary, 11100 S. 230 East, Sandy
“Parents are free to come to whichever event is most convenient for them. We view this as an opportunity for parents to ask questions and learn about our early childhood philosophy, child-initiated and hands-on learning, and research-based curriculum,” said Leigh Ann Fisher, an instructional coach specializing in kindergarten.
Canyons District accepts applications for tuition-based preschool and begins enrolling kindergarten students Jan. 14 through Feb. 27, 2026.
Title I preschools are the only exception and start taking applications from students who live in Title I school boundaries starting March 1, 2026.
At the Open House events, experts will be on hand to walk parents through the logistics of enrolling and answer questions about eligibility and vaccination requirements, full-day versus half-day kindergarten, and more. The first 30 minutes of each event will be devoted to allowing parents to visit vendor tables. This will be followed by a brief presentation and Q&A.
“We’ll share tips and resources to help parents prepare their child for that first day of school,” said Stephanie Petersen, Early Childhood Program Administrator. “And we’ll send parents home with some learning enrichments and a free backpack, pencil case and coloring book.”

Steps to Enroll
ENROLL: Students who are new to Canyons, have never attended one of our schools, and do not have a Skyward Family Access account, will need to create one by selecting Temporary Account for New Student Enrollment. This will ensure you receive important information from your child’s school.
DECLARE: To assist with staffing and scheduling, Canyons District asks parents who prefer a half-day schedule to declare their preference in an email to their school’s principal by Feb. 27, 2026. Your school’s principal will then schedule a time to meet to assist you in completing a half-day request form. Questions? Please reach out to your school’s Main Office.
REGISTER: In the spring, schools will invite families to their site-based kindergarten orientations. In the summer, families will receive information about completing CSD’s online back-to-school registration in August.
