Back to School • Register for the 2021-2022 School Year Starting Aug. 2

Canyons District schools are gearing up to welcome back students with familiar faces and enthusiastic high-fives.

With the pandemic, we may still face some unknowns. But one thing remains certain: When classes resume, Canyons will be there for students.

Registration for the coming school year starts Monday, Aug. 2.

Have vacation plans for that week? Still weighing your back-to-school options? Not to worry. You can complete the registration process when it’s convenient for your family. We do encourage families to register as soon as possible, however, to assist schools in finalizing teaching assignments and class schedules.

This year, the registration process will look much like it always has.

NEW STUDENTS TO CANYONS: If your child is new to Canyons, and has never attended one of our schools, you will need to first create a Skyward Family Access account by completing the New Student Online Enrollment form. Your Skyward Family Access account is the gateway you’ll use this year, and every subsequent year, to register your children. Once you’ve created the account, and starting on Aug. 2, you can then log in to Skyward and select New Student Enrollment to complete the Online Registration process for each child.

RETURN STUDENTS: If your child has attended CSD in the past: You will use your Guardian Skyward Family Access ID and Password to begin the online-registration process. Once logged in to Skyward, simply follow the prompts and make personal identification updates as needed. When registering online, you will need to pay any school fees using a credit card. If you prefer to pay with cash, or qualify for a fee waiver, or need to schedule a payment plan with your school, please contact your child’s school directly.

Canyons will, as it has done since the pandemic, follow all applicable state laws and health orders while continuing to prioritize in-classroom instruction and offering online learning options. Schools this fall will resume their usual schedules, field trips, assemblies, and other activities while carrying forward with sophisticated cleaning routines and air filtration improvements.

Lessons learned from last year have given rise to Canyons Online, a program for self-driven, organized learners who seek an educational experience away from the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom. Starting in fall 2021, Canyons Online will be the program through which high-quality online classes will be provided to students from kindergarten through the 12th grade. K-8 students who are interested in Canyons Online can apply now. High school students can apply starting Aug. 9. Canyons Online students will still need to complete CSD’s annual registration process, and will be asked to identify a brick-and-mortar school as their home school (since they’ll be able to take advantage of their school’s extracurricular activities, counseling services, and other functions).  You can find more information about Canyons Online, including a link to the application here: https://canyonsonline.canyonsdistrict.org/.

When registering their children for school, families will need to pay any school fees using a credit card. If you prefer to pay with cash, or qualify for a fee waiver, or need to schedule a payment plan with your school, please contact your child’s school directly.

While registration for most students will be done online, you may still register in person if you prefer. Contact your child’s school for the specific dates and times they will be open for your walk-in registration convenience.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
