CSD Students Prepare to Graduate, Start New Journeys

Emma Critchlow is proof that it’s never too late to start again. Once she put her mind to it, nothing could stop this Brighton High senior from crossing the commencement stage with her peers – not homelessness, financial constraints, nor even the daunting task of making up a year’s worth of school credits lost due […]

Alta High closes Friday due to power outage

A power outage has forced the cancellation of school today at Alta High. The decision was made after careful consideration of alternatives, and is largely due to the absence of natural light in the building and inability to effectively conduct classes. Alta High lost power today at about 8:30 a.m., and the utility company will […]

Student-Made Robots Do Alta View Hospital’s Groundbreaking Honors

An impressive line-up of dignitaries – including city leaders and local clergy – came to Wednesday’s groundbreaking for the largest renovation and expansion project in Alta View Hospital’s history. But the honor of wielding the golden-tipped shovels went to a group of built-to-order bots designed by area high school students, including members of the robotics […]

New Alta High Mural Brings History to Life Through Art

Here’s a terrifying idea: Hand eight gallons of paint to a group of teenagers and encourage them to unleash their creativity on a school wall of their choosing. But Alta High’s visual arts teacher Denise Crane trusted her students, never doubting they would rise to the challenge, and they didn’t disappoint. Their handiwork, a colorful, […]

Bubbles: Built for Combat, Bringing Laughter

The name “Bubbles” may seem out of character for a robot programmed to lay siege on a medieval fortress. But it’s sure to give spectators a giggle – and possibly put Alta High’s opponents off guard at the 2016 Utah Regional FIRST Robotics Competition. “That’s why my students like it. You can’t say the name […]

The University of Colorado professor of Early American History, who earned her Ph.D. at Yale University, will be speaking at Alta High […]

Board Meeting Summary, Jan. 19, 2016

Note: Recordings and documents for agenda items can be accessed via BoardDocs by clicking the corresponding agenda items. University of Utah Partnership The Board of Education heard a partnership proposal that would give Alta High students a jump-start on college. If the first-of-its-kind plan is realized as currently configured, a group of Alta-enrolled students would soon be […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
