Draper Park Middle students will return to on-campus learning, effective Monday, Oct. 12.
The return to in-person learning at Draper Park Middle, which pivoted to online-learning on Monday, Sept. 28, signals a positive shift in the number of confirmed cases associated with the middle school.
In recent days, active COVID-19 cases among Draper Park students and employees has fallen, and by Monday, Oct. 12 the count is expected to reach 10, which is below the 15-count threshold that would have triggered further discussions about extra mitigation strategies, according to Canyons’ guidelines.
Parents received notifications on Thursday about the move back to on-campus learning.
The Administrations of Canyons District and Draper Park Middle are heartened by these numbers and thank Draper Park families for doing their parts to reduce the numbers of COVID-19 cases in the school community. For the past two weeks, the Vikings have redoubled their efforts to remain as safe as possible. This has not gone unnoticed, and we appreciate all that parents have done to encourage their students to follow the appropriate safety precautions so students could return to campus.
However, now is not the time to relax. CSD recognizes that Fall Recess is on the horizon, and many families have planned short getaways. Please note that gatherings or outings without masks or physical distancing increase the chances of increased COVID-19 cases in the school community.
Parents and guardians can access information about COVID-19 cases in Canyons schools on CSD’s data dashboard, found on Canyons District’s website, canyonsdistrict.org. Information from the dashboard guides Canyons District as the community works together to face this public-health challenge. As families review the updated numbers, we ask them to keep in mind that several Draper Park students who previously had tested positive and have been in self-isolation will drop off the list over the weekend once they finish their required time at home according to health regulations.
Please direct questions by email to communications@canyonsdistrict.org. Parents also can call the District Office at 801-826-5000 or Draper Park’s Main Office.
