Canyons students who have been accepted to the District’s advanced-learner magnet program will get the good news in letters sent Friday, Dec. 7 to their homes.
In all, about 570 students sought access to the program called SALTA, which stands for Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement. The program is designed for students who require specialized instruction and learning experiences as a result of their advanced academic skills and abilities.
Students were accepted by meeting established criteria on a series of assessments.
This year, applications were accepted from students in the kindergarten through fourth grades. Current third-grade students now in the program also were asked to take the test.
Students who will not be offered placement in the magnet program for the coming year also will receive notice in the mail. Those letters were mailed on Dec. 7, too.
Parents who wish to review their child’s assessment can make an appointment to do so on two days. Staff will meet with parents on Friday Dec. 14 and Monday, Dec. 17. To make an appointment, please call Gwen Campbell in the Office of Evidence-Based Learning. She can be reached at 801-826-5044.
Placement appeals must be submitted to the District by Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
