Top Rankings, Strong Demand: Canyons High Schools Deliver

If school quality is measured by where families choose to enroll, Canyons District’s high schools are thriving. Even as school choice expands, 83 percent of local high school students choose Canyons schools, with another 770 students enrolling from outside District boundaries.

That demand is backed by independent rankings. All five of CSD’s comprehensive schools placed among Salt Lake’s top 20 in the 2026 U.S News & World Report rankings, with four schools ranking among the top 30 statewide.

“Our high schools continue to hold their place among the best, which speaks to the consistency of our programs and the outcomes our students are achieving,” said Tom Sherwood, the District’s Director of High Schools. “Our focus is making sure every student graduates ready for what comes next, and these rankings affirm that work. We’re delivering results that families can see and trust.”

In rating schools, the magazine weighs six factors: college readiness, state tests, early-college opportunities, and graduation rates. With test scores, the magazine looks at the share of each school’s students who are proficient or above proficient in their math and reading and language arts assessments.

Utah itself ranks among the top states in the nation for education, and as Sherwood notes, “Canyons schools continue to stand out within that high-performing landscape.”

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
