Applications to Test into SALTA Open Sept. 8
Education isn’t one-size-fits-all. Neither are students.
Some children thrive with hands-on learning. Others find their stride through the arts, science, or learning a second language. And some students need opportunities to move faster, dig deeper, and wrestle with increasingly complex ideas early on.
That’s why Canyons School District works to provide families with choices and learning opportunities designed around students’ strengths and interests — and for advanced learners, one of those choices is SALTA.
Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement — or SALTA — is a gifted and talented magnet program serving students who exhibit exceptional cognitive abilities. Students in kindergarten through the seventh grade can apply online starting Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The deadline for submitting an application for the 2027-2028 school year is midnight on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
“Every child learns differently, and school should be a place where every child is challenged to reach their potential,” said SALTA coordinator Halley Kirk. “Learning experiences in SALTA allow students to explore subjects in greater depth and learn from teachers who are specially trained to work with gifted students.”
SALTA magnet classrooms are currently located at: Peruvian Park Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, and Midvale Middle.
Due to the time-intensive and rigorous nature of the process for determining a student’s fit for the program, parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the testing requirements well before completing an application.
After applying, parents will receive an email with information about testing times and locations.
