For the fifth consecutive year, Canyons School District tops the Niche.com rankings, firmly securing its spot as the No. 1 school district in Salt Lake County.
The countywide rankings combine traditional districts and public charter networks into a single list, with Canyons earning the highest ranking.
According to Niche’s grading system, Canyons received an A- overall, with high marks for its teachers, academics, clubs and activities, college prep and its administration.
Like many rankings, Niche rests heavily on test scores, but also takes into consideration broader factors such as, teacher salaries, survey responses from teachers, students, and parents, and online reviews. The accessibility of sports and clubs and activities is also factor along with the quality of school facilities. In 2026,
Niche also introduced a new factor verifying college enrollment, which evaluates the percentage of high school seniors who go on to four-year colleges.
The platform for connecting families with schools does not factor in college entrance exams. But, according to data compiled by the Utah State Board of Education, Canyons boasts the region’s highest percentage of students to earn a composite ACT score of 18 or above. The Niche rankings follow news that 28 Canyons elementary and middle schools earned a “Best in Utah” distinction in 2026 from U.S. News and World Report. High school rankings haven’t been released.
