Canyons District Taps Davis District’s Tiffany Midgley to Helm Human Resources

Tiffany Midgley new Director of Human Resources

Canyons School District has hired Tiffany Midgley as its new Director of Human Resources, bringing to the role nearly two decades of experience in public education and organizational leadership.

She will succeed Steve Dimond who is retiring and has served as Canyons’ Human Resources Director since the District’s inception in 2009. During his tenure, Dimond played a foundational role in building hiring and retention systems, policies, and practices, helping to establish a stable and effective workforce during the District’s formative years.

“I want to build on Mr. Dimond’s great work and leadership, and very much look forward to being part of the Canyons District culture, a District known for its academic achievement, innovation, excellent teachers and staff, and strong governance,” said Midgley who joins Canyons from Davis School District, where she served in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as Director of the Special Education Department.

In that position she oversaw special education and Section 504 programs serving more than 9,500 students. A key component of her role included preparing and delivering districtwide professional development for school leaders and educators, strengthening leadership capacity and instructional practices across schools.

Midgley also served on Davis District’s Human Resources Administrative Consultation team, providing support for employment and personnel matters. In addition, she was a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Staff, contributing to high-level strategic planning and decision making.

Midgley moved from Davis County to Sandy City five years ago with her husband, Jeff Midgley. Two of her three children live in Sandy and her parents and her siblings all live within Canyons School District’s boundaries.

“I raised my kids in Davis County. Most of my career has been in Davis County and I loved working in the community I lived in. Canyons District is now my community,” Midgley said. “This is the district helping to educate my nieces and nephews, and it means a great deal to be able to serve the people and schools that are part of my own family and neighborhood.”

Midgley’s earlier career included working as a classroom teacher, administrative intern, and teacher trainer at the University of Utah — roles that gave her firsthand insight into the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to professional development and retention.

She has years of administrative experience, having worked as the principal at Fairfield Junior High and Windridge Elementary schools. She also worked as an assistant principal at Centerville Junior High School.

She holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, and an Associate of Arts degree from Ricks College.

Midgley said her leadership philosophy is rooted in investing in employees at every level of the organization.

“My goal is to support the people who care for kids,” Midgley said. “When we take care of the people who are working every day to care for kids — whether as teachers, bus drivers, lunch workers, or custodians — we create the conditions for great teaching, strong schools, and for great educators to grow into great leaders.”

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
