Lunch is on us! Canyons District to Serve Free Summer Meals

Did you know when school is out for summer, school-aged children can still access free school meals?

Three Canyons District schools will be serving up free breakfast and lunch from June 2 to August 1, 2025 as part of the federally approved Summer Food Service Program. All children 18 years and younger are eligible to dig in — no enrollment or proof of residency required.

“This is a program for all children. You don’t need to be enrolled in Canyons District, or even live within our boundaries, to take advantage of these summer meals,” said CSD’s Nutrition Services Director Sebasthian Varas. “We’re proud to be providing this much-needed service to our community.”

Meals will be available Monday through Friday at the locations listed below. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • East Midvale Elementary, 6990 S. 300 East, Midvale
  • Midvale Elementary, 7830 S. Chapel Street, Midvale
  • Sandy Elementary, 8725 S. 280 East, Sandy (due to construction, Sandy’s meals will be a picnic-style feast outside on the grass)

For a limited time, June 2-5, meals will also be served at Mount Jordan Middle, 9351 Mountaineer Ln., Sandy. The same breakfast and lunch times apply.

Please note that all meals must be enjoyed at the school, per federal program requirements.

There will be no meal service on June 16, July 4, and July 24, when Canyons schools and District Offices observe state and federal holidays.

Canyons School District is an equal opportunity provider of the federal summer meal program.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
