Get a Jump on College, Careers With CTEC — Explore New Courses in AI, Health Care

If you’re a high school sophomore or junior looking to get jump on college or a chosen career, there’s no better place to start than the Canyons Technical Education Center (CTEC).

From health sciences and business leadership to engineering, digital media, and construction, CTEC offers hands-on programs that prepare students for immediate entry into high-wage, high-demand fields.

And now, CTEC is adding two new programs to that lineup:

  • a spring 2026 Intro to Artificial Intelligence course, open to students who want to understand one of the most transformative technologies of our time.
  • a four-credit spring 2026 Medical Scholars course through Weber State University that will give students broad exposure to various medical careers and hands-on experience at Lone Peak and Alta View hospitals.

Students can apply now to enroll in the spring semester courses at ctec.canyonsdistrict.org. The application window for the 2026-2027 school year opens Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 at 7 a.m.

Talk to your counselor to make sure these courses fit your schedule, or join CTEC for an Open House to meet industry-trained instructors and explore course options — Thursday, Jan. 8, 4-7 p.m., 825 E. 9085 South in Sandy.

Whether you aspire to medical school, a tech career or skilled trade, or you want to start your own business, CTEC has a pathway for you:

  • Business, marketing, and entrepreneurship
  • Cybersecurity, IT, and computer sciences
  • Health sciences and emergency response
  • Engineering and architecture
  • Cosmetology and barbering
  • Automotive technology, construction, welding, and other skilled trades
  • Digital media, animation, and broadcasting

Why Students Choose CTEC

  • Earn College Credit: Every CTEC program offers concurrent enrollment opportunities, giving students a head start on higher education.
  • Gain Industry Certifications: Programs include professional certifications that signal readiness for today’s competitive workforce.
  • Learn by Doing: Students work with real equipment, real tools, and on real-world scenarios—not just textbooks.

Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year opens soon, and the Open House is the best time to see programs up close before applying.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
