Etched in Our Hearts: Celebrating Canyons District’s 2026 Retirees

Some people leave behind memories. Our retirees leave legacies — ones forever etched in our hearts.

This year, Canyons School District proudly celebrates the educators, mentors, leaders, and support staff whose quiet acts of service have shaped generations of students and strengthened our school communities in lasting ways.

These remarkable employees will be honored at a by-invitation Retirees Banquet on Thursday, May 14. Schools and District departments also are recognizing their colleagues with Open House events throughout the District (see below).

To add an Open House to the list below, email the retiree’s name and event date, time, and location to communications@canyonsdistrict.org.

To our retirees: thank you for the gifts you have given to the Canyons community. Though you may be stepping away from your daily roles, you leave an indelible mark on the lives you’ve shaped and doors you’ve opened for so many.

  • An Open House will be held for Denise Hudson Hoffman, Shelly Christensen, Suzanne Hardy-Smith, Trish Morrison, and Wendy Winzenreid Friday, May 15, 3-5 p.m. at Willow Canyon Elementary, 9650 S. 1700 East, Sandy.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
