CSD Announces Late-Start Schedule for Thursday, Feb. 23 Due to Extreme Weather

Because of this week’s extreme weather and challenging travel conditions, and out of concern for the safety of students and employee, Canyons District will delay the start of school for two hours on Thursday, Feb. 23.

On Thursday, schools will start two hours later than the regular bell schedule. This means that bus routes will be two hours later than the regularly scheduled time. In addition, and as a result of the delayed start, morning sessions of preschool and kindergarten are cancelled.

Morning classes at the Canyons Technical Education Center also are cancelled. Afternoon sessions of preschool and kindergarten, as well as CTEC classes, will be held as usual and all schools will end at their regular time.

We thank you in advance for your patience as our buses navigate the roads, and we are instructing our schools to be lenient with student tardies.

With the understanding that many roads are still unplowed, as always, parents can make the decision for what is best for their families.

Employees are asked to arrive at work as soon as they can safely do so.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
