Canyons Tops ‘Best District’ Rankings Three Straight Years

Looking for top-ranked schools?

Look no further than Canyons School District, which for the third consecutive year ranks No. 1 for Best School Districts in the Greater Salt Lake Area. That’s according to the 2025 rankings by Niche.com, a platform for connecting families with schools and colleges.

According to Niche’s grading system, CSD earned an overall A-, receiving an A- for its teachers, clubs and activities, college prep and administration, and a B in diversity.

Like many rankings, Niche rests heavily on test scores, but also takes into consideration more holistic factors such as, teacher salaries, survey responses from teachers, students, and parents, and online reviews. The accessibility of sports and clubs and activities is also factor along with the quality of school facilities. In 2025 the ranking platform continued is practice of not including college entrance exam scores, reflecting the rise of test-optional college admissions.

Canyons outranks all but one of the public charter schools that are located in the District’s boundaries, including American Preparatory Academy, Channing Hall, and Summit Academy.

Individual school rankings show nine of CSD’s 28 elementary schools, five of CSD’s eight middle schools, and three of CSD’s five traditional high schools in Salt Lake’s top 25.

“Rankings like these affirm the incredible dedication of our teachers and administrators, the hard work of our students, the strength of our programs, from academic to extra-curriculars, and the unwavering support of our community,” said Canyons Superintendent Dr. Rick Robins.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
