Apply Now: Canyons Accepting Applications for Employee Day Care

With recent daycare closures tightening options for working families in Salt Lake County, Canyons School District is continuing a benefit that’s already making a difference: onsite daycare for employees.

Starting Monday, March 30 at 9 a.m. through midnight on Friday, April 24, 2026, Canyons employees can apply online to enroll their infant or toddler children at one of the following school-based locations for the 2026-2027 school year. All three locations serve children from six weeks to five years of age.

·                      Brighton High

·                      Corner Canyon High

·                      Jordan High

After April 24, all new applications will be placed on a waitlist.

“We urge interested employees to apply soon, because we anticipate demand will be high,” said Canyons Early Childhood Program Administrator Stephanie Petersen. “These programs provide a safe, nurturing environment while also supporting hands-on learning opportunities for high school students who are exploring careers in early childhood education.”

Enrollment will be based on the Canyons Board of Education-approved priorities described in the Early Childcare Training Center Parent/Guardian Handbook, and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Employees with children who are currently enrolled in the program are still required to complete an annual application. “This ensures we have the most up-to-date information and can plan appropriately for staffing and classroom needs,” Petersen said.

To meet rising operational costs, there will be a $50 monthly tuition increase for the coming year.

Employees can choose to enroll their children for five days, three days, or every other day (A or B days).

Tuition for the program ranges up to $950 per month, depending on the schedule the family chooses and whether the child is diapered or non-diapered. The tuition is deducted directly through CSD’s payroll.

All ECTC locations are open during the school year from 6:50 a.m. to 4:10 p.m.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
