Announcing the Fall Theater Lineup for Canyons High Schools

The start of the chilly fall weather signals the time of the school year when Canyons District high schools stage family-friendly Broadway favorites and classics.

This year is no different. The award-winning theater programs at Alta, Brighton, Corner Canyon, Hillcrest and Jordan high schools are in final rehearsals before they open shows full of intrigue, magic, and hope.

Alta High will present the jazz-inflected “Hadestown: Teen Edition.” The Hawks’ production will run Nov. 19-22 and Nov. 24. Shows are at 7 p.m.

The cast of Alta’s “Hadestown” host a gala on opening night. Tickets for the gala are available now, and tickets for all other shows will go on sale Monday, Nov. 3.  Both the gala and show tickets can be purchased here.

Brighton and Jordan high schools will both present “Cinderella,” the time-honored classic about a young girl who dreams of escaping the mistreatment from her stepmother and stepsisters.

The Bengals production of “Cinderella” will run Nov. 20-22. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, Oct. 30 and can be purchased here.

The Beetdigger theater department will stage “Cinderella” Nov. 13- 15 and Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.

Get ready to “step in time” with Corner Canyon’s production of “Mary Poppins,” the classic story of a nanny who is “practically perfect in every way.”

The Chargers’ production will be Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 17. Tickets can be purchased here.

Hillcrest’s theater department will put on a new take for a timeless story, presenting “Wendy and Peter Pan,” by the playwright Ella Hickson, adapted from J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan.” The show, which was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, focuses on the perspective of Wendy as she meets the lost boys of Neverland.

The curtain will rise on “Wendy and Peter Pan” Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 17. Tickets go on sale Thursday, Oct. 30 and can be purchased here.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
