Nominate the Teacher of the Year

Is your child’s teacher the best of the best? Nominate him or her to become your school’s Teacher of the Year. The winning teacher will receive prizes and recognitions at an April 16, 2013 Canyons Board of Education Reception and Honors Ceremony. He or she also will have a chance to be selected as the Canyons School District Teacher of the Year, who will receive additional prizes and recognitions and be nominated for the State Teacher of the Year award.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Download the pdfNomination Form
  2. Complete the form on why you think your nominee should be recognized. Criteria include how the teacher shows that students are making progress, supports the Canyons District vision and goals, and exhibits leadership skills and efforts to promote collaboration, student engagement, and community and family involvement.
  3. Print and submit the form to your school’s PTA leaders, or, if you are a school employee, to the principal, by March 1. The School Selection Committee will consider nominees forwarded by the PTA (up to two) and employees.
  4. Watch for information on the March 22 Teacher of the Year surprise announcement at your school.

Canyons School District honors Teachers of the Year at every school. Winners of each school’s Teacher of the Year will be announced at school celebrations on March 22, 2013. The District Teacher of the Year will be announced by the Board of Education on April 16, 2013.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
