Mayors of CSD Cities, County Support Superintendent

The mayors of the five cities within Canyons School District, as well as the mayor of Salt Lake County, have written and signed a letter in support of Canyons Superintendent David S. Doty and the work and direction of the Canyons School District and Board of Education. The letter, dated April 26, 2012, was addressed to the Canyons Board of Education and signed by Alta Mayor Tom Pollard, Cottonwood Heights Mayor Kelvyn Cullimore Jr., Midvale Mayor JoAnn B. Seghini, Draper Mayor Darrell H. Smith, Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan, and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon.

“We, as mayors, encourage the Board and Superintendent to not allow the efforts of a few to distract you from important educational goals and urge them to continue to put the parents and children of Canyons School District first. Change is always difficult, but we stand firmly behind the Board of Education and Superintendent. You have our full support as we work together for the families and students we all serve,” the letter states.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
