You’re Invited To An Open House At CTEC

Students who are seeking more information about the top-flight career training programs offered at the Canyons Technical Education Center are invited to an open house on Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The free event will be on the CTEC campus, 825 E. 9085 South, and is for high school and middle school students and their parents, said Ken Spurlock, CTEC principal.

“This is a chance for us to show off the great programs at CTEC,” he said.  “We not only help students find pathways to high-wage, high-skill fields, we’re also put them on the road to getting ready for the academic challenges of college.”

Spurlock said students and faculty have planned demonstrations in such programs as cosmetology and barbering, computer programming, fire science, medical assisting and welding, among others. Students from each area have planned demonstrations and hands on exhibits to help spark curiosity in our programs.

Instructors and high school coordinators will be at the event to answer questions and give registration advice. Students will be available to talk about the programs in which they are enrolled and provide tours of the facility, 825 E. 9085 South.

“We’re really hoping parents come with their high school and middle school age students to visit and see what we have to offer,” Spurlock said. If families like what they see at the open house, he said, they can begin the registration process for their students. “You have to see it to believe it.”

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
