Sending CDS Retirees off in Style

Honoring a proud tradition, Canyons School District bid a fond farewell to retiring colleagues at a by-invitation-only dinner banquet at the Gathering Place at Gardner Village. A record number of 77 employees are departing Canyons this year for their happily ever after. Some have devoted 40 years or more to Utah’s public school system, and many have worked for Canyons since the district’s inception in 2009. All of them have contributed to CSD’s success. “Whether you have worked in school classrooms, school front offices, school buses or school grounds, all of you have worked to help children, and help build a better tomorrow,” said Canyons Board of Education President Sherril Taylor at the event. “In all your duties, you’ve contributed to success stories that are as countless as words ever written.  Our schools will continue to grow stronger – all because of the power of the gifts you have shared.”

Separate retirement recognitions were held throughout the district. Please join us in expressing appreciation for the employees who are retiring in 2016 from Canyons District:

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
