Since its inception in 2009, Canyons District has cheered 20 big wins in Gatorade’s annual selection of the best prep athletes in seven sports. This year is no exception as Corner Canyon quarterback Isaac Wilson becomes the fourth Charger — and seventh CSD student — to earn the prestigious title of Gatorade Utah Football Player […]

Drill of the Month: Fire Safety Drills in Schools

School fires are rare and today’s school buildings are equipped with modern features to prevent fires and minimize damage should one occur, from sprinklers in the ceilings to automated doors that act as fire breaks. But that doesn’t alleviate the need to perform regular fire drills. In January, as students return from Winter Recess, all […]

How a Canyons Teacher is Connecting with Students One Song at a Time

In Canyons, students aren’t the only ones who know the apprehension of auditioning for a role or the thrill of a standing ovation. Teachers like Hillcrest High’s RaNae Dalgleish bring to the classroom first-hand experience as professional artists — in her case, as a member of one of the most prestigious choirs in the world. Having […]

Canyons Parents Embrace the Spirit of Volunteering Year Round

Tennessee may be the volunteer state, but here in Utah, we have a strong history of coming together to help one another. For many years, Utahns have led the nation in volunteering, and this year is no different, according to research by Volunteering and Civic Life in America. Here in the Canyon School District, we […]

National Computer Security Day is November 30th. As our education system continues to develop, computer security is top of mind. Our computers are becoming faster and more advanced. They fit in our pockets, we use them in our schools, and seemingly every facet of our lives. On this week’s episode of Connect Canyons, Director of […]

Here’s Why CSD Schools Teach Information Literacy

Being a good citizen means being an informed citizen. Nothing short of a healthy democracy depends on it, says Canyons District’s Library and Media Specialist Gretchen Zaitzeff, who in 2022 helped bring into being an “information investigators” program that is empowering students to become just that. The program, launched with a state grant and additional […]

Fluent in More Than One Language? Apply for the Seal of Biliteracy

This badge of honor gives students a competitive edge when applying for jobs and college, and it was earned by 78 percent of Canyons’ high school seniors who applied for it last year.  It’s called the Seal of Biliteracy — and the time to apply to have it affixed to your student’s transcripts is now. […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
