New Operating Site

The Board of Education approved a proposal to house Entrada Adult High and Life Skills Academy at the former Bella Vista Elementary, starting in the 2027-20287 school year. The new site will help provide “cross over services” to the adult students enrolled in the respective programs, said Dr. Tom Sherwood, Director of CSD High Schools. Currently, Entrada holds credit-bearing classes on the Diamond Ridge High campus. LSA, Canyons’ vocational-training program for adults with disabilities, operates from Crescent View Middle property, which is now under contract to be sold to Sandy City. Sherwood told the Board that the Bella Vista property, 2131 Fort Union Blvd., is within walking distance of multiple business and community partners, including the Whitmore Library. The site, which gives room for Entrada to grow, also offers access to public transportation, including a bus stop along Fort Union.  In addition, Dr. Sherwood said that while the two programs will remain separate and distinct, the shared location creates a direct opportunity for Life Skills students to pursue a high school diploma at the same building in which they are learning how to lead more independent lives. Entrada and LSA will remain at their current locations for the coming school year, Sherwood said. At the Board’s request, parents and students at both Entrada and LSA were recently informed by the Administration about the proposal and given a chance to provide input.

The Board of Education approved the Consent Agenda, which included the minutes for the Board meeting on June 16, 2026; hire and termination reports; purchasing bids; June financial reports; and the annual Fraud Risk Assessment required by the Office of the State Auditor.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
