When Alta, Brighton and Corner Canyon High students return from Fall Recess, they’ll be returning to on-campus learning. Starting Monday, Oct. 19, the three schools will shift from split or virtual schedules to full calendars of on-campus instruction. The change comes at the recommendation of local health officials and signals a significant decline in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with the schools. More than a dozen Canyons District high school students are on track to receive a financial boost for their higher education goals, thanks to their hard work in academics, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from their teachers. They are among 16,000 students nationwide chosen as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The following CSD students are on track to becoming Finalists in the competition, a designation that will be announced in February. For Hillcrest High senior Laura Wan, the question of which school she would choose to attend began as early as kindergarten, when her parents steered her to an advanced learner’s program at Canyons District’s Peruvian Park Elementary. After completing the SALTA program in elementary school, she chose Midvale Middle for its Middle Years Program, and then Hillcrest for its International Baccalaureate (IB) program. What time is it? It’s time to see Alta Hawks play Wildcats in a television event that attracts millions of viewers every week. A group of band students at Alta High on Friday flocked to the school’s auditorium to catch themselves in the most-recent episode of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” a trending show on the Disney+ streaming service. Cheers erupted during the finale, when the members of the band appeared on the screen. The Alta student-musicians played and danced around the show’s stars, who performed their version of the iconic “We’re All In This Together” tune that
