Utah Royals Roster Bolstered by Talents, Skills of Alta High Graduates

Michele Vasconcelos set the Alta High record for the number of goals scored in a single season when she dominated the prep scene in 2011 with her Hawk teammates. The big moment came during the 65th minute of the 5A state championship at the then-Rio Tinto Stadium that gave the Hawks the state trophy. That record […]

Three Proven Ways to Calm Those Back-to-School Jitters

Positive affirmations. A check-in text message, or treats and notes tucked into lunchboxes with the encouraging words, “You got this!” Parents devise no shortage of creative ways parents to ease those back-to-school jitters. Seasoned educators, however, will tell you the best tips and tricks boil down to three key components: routine, boundaries, and communication. For […]

This ‘World’s Best’ Bus Driver Calls Canyons District Home

Jeremy Klung doesn’t just love driving a school bus, he’s good at it. Scratch that, he’s great at it — particularly when it comes to the precision required to steer a 35-to-40 foot long vehicle through construction zones and along snowy roads with the goal of safely getting dozens of children to and from school […]

CSD Joins Statewide Effort to Improve Air Quality, Keep Athletes Healthy

While no one is immune from the harmful effects of air pollution, children, with their still-developing airways, and high school athletes who spend a lot of time training in the outdoors, are especially vulnerable. In the mountain-rimmed Salt Lake Valley, which is geographically prone to bouts of air pollution, having access to comprehensive air quality […]

Honoring Canyons Paraeducators with 2024 Outstanding Paraeducator Awards

Think bigger, fail smarter, work harder. That’s the motto Canyons alumnus TJ Neyman lives by. Years ago, when he was a student at Draper Park Middle, the career aptitude tests he took all pointed to him being an engineer. At the time, Neyman thought the tests were wrong. A high school field trip to an […]

Not His First Rodeo: This Alta High Graduate Takes Life By The Horns

Years of practice, bumps and bruises, and a load of nervous jitters culminate in eight short seconds the moment you climb atop a thousand-pound bull and nod to set him loose in an arena of cheering fans. Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
