It’s been said, “together everyone achieves more,” which certainly applies to the classroom as administrators, teachers, paraeducators, and a bevy of staff members work yearlong to ensure Canyons District students graduate college- and career-ready. Each year, the Canyons Office of Special Education & Related Services acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the numerous paraeducators […]

‘All the World’s a Stage’ for this Jordan High Grad

While performing on the stage is where Jordan High’s Parker Bettinson feels most at home, he says owning your role and nailing your lines doesn’t happen by accident. “The true magic happens behind the scenes when you put in the hard work,” says Bettinson who will now apply that work ethic to his studies at […]

Sophia Mun is the kind of person who is driven to excel, but improves herself by doing better for others. Dance Keeps Bengal Grad Balanced In Pursuit of American Dream

The high school years are challenging enough without the added difficulty of adjusting to a new home, culture, and language. But for Brighton Bengal graduate Danny Arroyo, the sacrifice was worth it, and made all the more enjoyable through the universal language of dance.    Arroyo moved as a teenager to Utah from Costa Rica […]

Corner Canyon Graduate Takes Rooke in Game of Life

Theoretical physicist and Nobel Laureate Richard Fynman once compared discovering the laws of physics to learning the rules of chess merely by observing a chess game. “You don’t know the rules of the game, but you’re allowed to look at the board from time to time, in a little corner, perhaps. And from these observations, […]

Think bigger, fail smarter, work harder. That’s the motto Canyons alumnus TJ Neyman lives by. A high school field trip to an […]

Not His First Rodeo: This Alta High Graduate Takes Life By The Horns

Years of practice, bumps and bruises, and a load of nervous jitters culminate in eight short seconds the moment you climb atop a thousand-pound bull and nod to set him loose in an arena of cheering fans. That’s assuming you manage to stay atop the bull for eight seconds, the time limit for a qualifying […]

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
