Great care and attention has gone into building the new home for the Bobcats. Built to modern seismic standards, the new school building is considerably more energy efficient than its 55-year-old predecessor. Conservation-minded students will appreciate the waterwise landscaping. The concrete and steel construction is low-maintenance and durable. “The new Union Middle is built to last. It’s not only safer and more comfortable and cost-efficient — it’s also a more functional learning environment for our teachers and students,” said Principal Brenda McCann. The path to the completion of Union Middle was paved by voter-approval of a school safety bond in 2017. Due to its age, and need for seismic improvements, a facilities review determined it would more cost-effective to rebuild the school than renovate it. “Seeing this campus rise anew warms my heart,” said Canyons Board of Education Vice President Mont Millerberg. “This is a momentous occasion for the District and community, which has entrusted us to build and maintain safe, high-quality learning environments that inspire students to achieve. This new school will benefit the students of today and generations to come.” The school is wired for today’s teaching technologies and has more than a few wow factors, including, a Ninja-style obstacle course and climbing wall.
