Policy 500.30 – Open Enrollment, School Admissions, and School Moratoriums
The Board of Education has the power to establish, locate, and maintain kindergarten, elementary, secondary, and applied technology schools. (See, Utah Codes §§53G-6-302; 53G-4-402; 53G-7-203). The Board of Education is committed to compliance with all state and federal laws regarding enrollment and admission of students in District schools.
Policy 500.31 – School Admission-Homeless Youth and Unaccompanied Minors
The Board of Education is committed to compliance with all state and federal laws regarding enrollment and admission of students in District schools. The Board believes that children and youths experiencing homelessness and refugees should have access to the same free, appropriate public education, as provided to other children and youths.
Policy 500.33 – Out of District Students (Part-Time and Activities)
The Board recognizes that from time-to-time out-of-district students may request to enroll as part-time students in Canyons District schools to attend classes and/or participate in Canyons School District sponsored extra and co-curricular activities.
Policy 500.34 – Immunization of Students
The Board recognizes that maintaining a high level of immunization among the students contributes to the health and well-being of the total community. Therefore, the Board authorizes the Superintendent or designee to establish immunization screening procedures and to exclude from school those students who are not either immunized or exempted as required
Policy 500.35 – Student Attendance
The Board of Education is committed to compliance with the state’s compulsory education requirements for students between the ages of six and 18. Compliance with the state’s compulsory education requirements includes following state laws and administrative rules regarding excused and unexcused absences, recording attendance, truancy, released-time classes, hospital and homebound services, and exemptions from attendance.
