Draper Park, Indian Hills Win Intramural Cross Country Race

Draper Park boys and Indian Hills girls teams run like the wind. The two teams were crowned champions of the 2015 Canyons School District Middle School Intramurals Cross Country Race, held Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at Eastmont Middle School. Second place trophies went to the Union boys and Butler girls teams. Albion boys and Draper Park girls teams finished in third place.

The Cross Country race includes the top three male runners and top three female runners in each grade from all eight CSD middle schools. The event marks the beginning of the 2015-2016 CSD Middle School Intramurals season. Now in its seventh year, the CSD intramurals program offers students competitive athletic and academic events in which everyone is welcome to participate. This year, students also will participate in chess, 3-on-3 basketball, and soccer.

Girls Division

Overall

  • First Place: Willow Collins, Draper Park, seventh grade
  • Second Place: Lauren Bingham, Eastmont, eighth grade
  • Third Place: Morgan Jensen, Indian Hills, eighth grade

Sixth Grade

  • First Place: Savannah Cottam, Butler
  • Second Place: Caroline Rupper, Butler
  • Third Place: Allison Maughan, Eastmont

Seventh Grade

  • First Place: Willow Collins, Draper Park
  • Second Place: Anne Gleason, Albion
  • Third Place: Lydia Gibbs, Indian Hills

Eighth Grade

  • First Place: Lauren Bingham, Eastmont
  • Second Place: Morgan Jensen, Indian Hills

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
