Digital Citizenship Plan

Digital Citizenship - Blazing Trails

Canyons School District’s digital citizenship goal is to empower students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. From lesson plans, videos, student interactives, assemblies, to professional learning and family outreach materials, our hope is to provide schools with information they need to take a whole-community approach to digital citizenship.

Internet Safety & Digital Citizenship

What is Canyons District doing to maintain healthy, safe learning environments at schools?

During the October SCC meeting, the school-based technology team (including a DigCit rep.) and administration will share the school technology plan with the SCC. This plan includes how the school will provide student technology education, parent technology education and information about our district’s filtering and networks support system.

  • Does the SCC feel it has recieved enough information to determine if the filtering systems and supervision practices are appropriate?
  • Does the SCC feel it has received  enough information about the school’s educational effort to instill a student’s desire to be a good digital citizen?
  • Does the SCC believe the school has a viable plan to present internet citizenship and safety information to the parents in the community?

If the SCC has not received adequate information to support the school’s digital citizenship efforts, the council should produce a recommended action plan.  Upon completion of the review by the SCC the Principal, SCC Chair and DigCit Building representative will submit the school digital citizenship plan through CSD Dashboard.

Each school has a Digitial Citizenship representative that receives training and resources from our Educational Technology team in our Instructional Supports Department.  This team provides school representatives with monthly technology tips, lesson plans, and parent information to distribute throughout the school. From cyberbullying and photo sharing to digital footprints and online safety,  we want to help students and parents address important topics and have meaningful conversations about making great choices in their digital lives.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
