A group of students has been empaneled to provide their perspectives on issues that come before the Board of Education.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Robert Dowdle introduced the 10-member Student Advisory Council during the Board’s Sept. 15, 2015 Business Meeting. The Council is comprised of two students from each high school at least one of whom is a student body officer and the other, a junior or senior who were selected as part of an application process. Council representatives will attend the Board’s semi-monthly meetings, discuss issues facing the Board, and provide input to the Board from a student’s perspective.

Members of the Board’s 2015-2016 Student Advisory Council are:
Alta: Joseph Hawkins, Maggie Evans
Brighton: Tyler Hoerchel, Chris Newman
Corner Canyon: Paige Nelson, Austin Matsuura
Hillcrest: Mary Rudd, Taylor Pulmater
Jordan: David Carr, Kaylin Bingham
Dr. Dowdle said that the students will hold regular meetings, which will include presentations by District leaders, during the high schools’ lunch periods. He said he hopes to receive student input on policy matters at each of the meetings, and to bring the feedback to the Board for consideration.
Board President Sherril Taylor welcomed the students and the opportunities their service will bring. Â
“We’re going to have a great, year,” he said, “and we’re glad to have you be a part of it.” Â
The Board established the Student Advisory Council in 2013 following a proposal from Alta student Katrina Jones. The concept was developed by a task force of student leaders, principals, and CSD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kathryn McCarrie.
