Happy Birthday To Canyons School District

Let’s sing it together: Happy birthday to you, Canyons District. Happy birthday to you.

Canyons District officially became a school district – the first to be created in Utah in nearly a century – on July 1, 2009. The Board of Education and Administration thank the District’s teachers, staff, students, parents and community partners for all the hard work and dedication they’ve shown in the support of our schools.

Among our accomplishments: We’ve built and improved several schools, including Corner Canyon High and Butler and Draper Park middle schools, which open this fall; implemented a comprehensive school boundary realignment; put into place a grade reconfiguration plan that provides students additional academic offerings; launched the first college- and careeer-ready high school diplomas in Utah; received accolades for our budgets; increased student achievement; started the Canyons Education Foundation, which has given nearly $125,000 to teachers for innovative educational projects; and won numerous state athletic, academic and arts trophies.

Happy birthday, Canyons. Happy birthday, indeed.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
