Canyons Accepting SALTA Applications for 2013-2014

Starting Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, Canyons District will begin accepting applications from students who want to take the test for admittance to CSD’s SALTA magnet program.

This year, applications are being accepted from students in the kindergarten through fourth grades.  Current third-grade students now in the program also will need to take the test.  The parents of these students will need to fill out the online applications, as well.

The Request for Testing Form for SALTA – which stands for Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement – will be available on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.  It will be accessible on the Canyons District Web site until Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at midnight.

No late applications will be accepted.

Testing for entrance into the SALTA magnet program will take place on:

  • Testing Block No. 1 – Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012
  • Testing Block No. 2 – Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012

Families will be able to choose which set of testing days they want when filling out the form.

Other than the students in the third grade, students who are in the SALTA program will be grandfathered into the program for the 2013-2014 school year. The Online Testing Request Form is for students who are not enrolled in the SALTA program and wish to be tested for placement into the SALTA program next year.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
