Kick Off the School Year with Real Monarchs

The start of a new school year with its new routines, rules and expectations can be stressful for children and parents. At Canyons District, it’s something to celebrate.

Per tradition, CSD schools will literally roll out the red carpet to greet students the first day of school. The celebratory start helps students feel welcome while underscoring the importance of school as a child’s ticket to the show of life – and this year, players from the Real Monarchs will join schools in giving students the royal treatment.

Rio Grande 1

As students enter the building, players from the professional soccer team, parents, teachers and Principals will line the red carpet to cheer our up-and-coming college- and career-ready stars. Each student will receive a free pencil, enthusiastic high-five’s and two-for-one ticket voucher for Canyons District Night at Rio Tinto on Friday, Aug. 25.

The vouchers entitle families to one free ticket for every full-price ticket they purchase to the Friday, Aug. 25 Monarchs game, which starts at 7 p.m. Tickets range in price from $8 to $15, and can be purchased at the ticket counter or online

While enjoying the game, watch for inspirational “stay-in-school” messages on the stadium videoboards. Bennett Chew, a senior at Hillcrest High, will perform the National Anthem, and Alta High’s nationally-acclaimed soccer coach Lee Mitchell will perform the opening coin toss.

Bring your whole family to this start-of-school party!

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
