What is Playworks?
Playworks is a program that supports building a positive school climate by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day. During Playworks/PE Brain Booster time, students learn Playworks games that are aligned with the National PE Standards that can also be played at recess. During recess, the goal is to create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, safe, and active. During both recess and PE/Playworks Brain Boosters, students connect with each other through play and gain beneficial social and emotional skills including teamwork, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
Another part of the Playworks program is the Junior Coach Leadership Program. This aspect of Playworks programming was created to provide leadership opportunities and leadership development to 4th and 5th grade students and to support schools with implementing a high functioning recess. These students receive training on leadership skills and then become mentors during recess time.
