Thirteen CSD Students Named Semifinalists in 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program

More than a dozen Canyons District high school students are on track to receive a financial boost for their higher education goals, thanks to their hard work in academics, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from their teachers. Fifteen CSD Students Advance in National Merit Scholarship Program

When it comes to academic contests, there are few as rigorous or prestigious as the National Merit Scholarship Program. Of the more than 1.5 million high school students who entered the competition this year, only 7,600 will prevail to win an estimated $31 million in scholarships–and among those in the running are 15 Canyons District students. Fourteen CSD Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists

It’s the equivalent of the power rankings in prep sports – except it’s for academics. Fourteen students representing all of Canyons District’s five traditional high schools have been named semi-finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship program.  They join about 16,000 other top scholars who this week advanced in the prestigious competition to vie for 7,500 scholarships worth $32 million. These coveted college recruits were chosen from 1.6 million students at more than 22,000 high schools. CSD Students Win National Merit Scholarships

Canyons School District is home to two 2017 National Merit Scholars. Eric Jackson of Corner Canyon and Brian Johnson of Jordan are among 2,500 high school seniors chosen nationally for the prestigious academic honor. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application with an essay and provide information about extracurricular activities, awards and leadership positions. Hillcrest Principal Named to National Merit Scholar Advisory Panel

Canyons District will have a voice at the table when the National Merit Scholarship Corp. starts talking with on-the-front-line educators about how it can increase the program’s reach, improve its processes and ensure the integrity of the academic competition well into the future.  Hillcrest High Principal Sue Malone has accepted an invitation to join the national advisory panel of the prestigious scholarship program.
