After a two-week switch to virtual classes, Hillcrest High students who are registered for in-person learning will return to campus on Monday, Dec. 7.
Hillcrest temporarily adopted an online-learning schedule for all students because of an uptick in COVID-19 cases associated with the school. Another factor in the decision, which was made after a meeting with the Salt Lake County Health Department, was the rise in the positivity rate in the Midvale-area neighborhoods surrounding the high school.
The recent online-learning schedule, which began Monday, Nov. 23, has allowed time to greatly reduce the number of students and employees who are on isolation or quarantine status.
In addition, per guidance from the Salt Lake County Health Department, the number of COVID-19 cases associated will Hillcrest will reset to zero on Canyons District’s COVID-19 data dashboard.
Cleaning crews were out in force while students were studying from remote locations. The building has been thoroughly cleaned in anticipation of the return of students, faculty, and staff.
As students return, they are reminded that masks are required in Canyons District schools. Both at and away from school, students are encouraged to follow such safety precautions as mask wearing and hand washing. Hand sanitizer will be available in the school, and students are asked to observe physical distancing where possible.
All of this will help Canyons District maintain a low in-school transmission rate of the novel coronavirus.
Parents are asked to monitor children daily for symptoms of COVID-19. Please contact a health provider if your child begins to exhibit any of the symptoms of the novel coronavirus. Those symptoms include a fever, cough, fatigue, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, a sore throat, congestion, nausea, or difficulty breathing.
