Public Invited To Tour House Built By CTEC Students

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Canyons Technology Center’s Project House is 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23.

Students at CTEC have spent the majority of the school year building the house, 569 E. Rosebowl Court (9235 South).

At the ribbon-cutting event, the students, who are enrolled in construction-related training programs, will show off their handiwork to the public before the five-bedroom, 3-bathroom home is officially placed on the market.

Some 3,100 square feet of the house is finished.

Among the features of the new house: walk-in closets, crown molding, three-tone paint with accented walls, a cherry-wood fireplace mantle, oak floors and hand rails, granite counter tops, energy-efficient appliances and a theater/game room wired for sound.

Proceeds from the sale of the house will pay for next year’s CTEC Project House.

Last year, District earned about $331,000 from the student-built house.

The house will also be open for tours 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 24-25, May 29-31 and June 1.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
